Okay, so it may not be the prettiest cake, but it certainly lives up to its name! Most Norwegians refer to Kvæfjord cake (Kvæfjordkake) as simply ‘verdens beste’, or the world’s best cake- in 2002 they even voted it as the national cake of Norway.
Comprised of EIGHT layers of deliciousness- in this class you’ll make:
Norwegian Sponge Cake
Topped with Delicious Meringue and sliced Almonds (or not- the choice is yours)
Lucious Vanilla Bean Diplomat Créme (Crème Pâtissière folded into light Chantilly Cream)
Homemade Raspberry Conserve
and filled with fresh fruit!
Kvæfjord is one of the most beautiful parts of Norway, nestled between the stunning Vesterålen islands and the town of Harstad. KvæfjordKake got its name from the two sisters from Kvæfjord who first made this cake at Café Alliance in Harstad in the 1930s.
Although it may sound like a bit of a boast, the entire FAB team agrees…even Sebastian! The original Verdens Beste is a meringue topped Norwegian sponge cake filled with a velvety vanilla cream. However, Angela had some fresh raspberries on hand and had just made a delicious homemade Raspberry Conserve, so… it just needed to be done. Of course, you can do the original version if you prefer, but really why would you want to?
You have the choice of making one large round cake or the sheet pan version which can easily be divided into two (perfect for Dynamic Duos.)
Can be made Gluten Free- please specify at checkout if you would prefer this option.
